The To-Do List Got Serious
Some bucket lists involve skydiving. Lowe’s version involves playgrounds, food pantries, shelters, and a whole lot of power tools. The Mooresville-based company is putting $20 million behind community projects across the country.
From Wish List to Work List
Lowe’s recently announced the latest round of its Community Impact program, with $10 million going toward major renovations for 100 nonprofit and community organizations. Another $10 million will support more than 2,000 projects led by Lowe’s associates nationwide.
The projects came from the company’s Community Bucket List, a nationwide call launched earlier this year asking people to nominate spaces that could use a serious upgrade. More than 5,000 nominations came in. The resulting project list covers everything from expanding food pantries and improving shelters to renovating first-responder facilities and creating better spaces for veterans.
There’s a North Carolina project in the mix, too. Third Creek Elementary in Statesville will work with Lowe’s to build an accessible playground and outdoor learning center. It’s the sort of renovation where new equipment does considerably more than spruce up the place. The project will give more students a space designed for them to actually use.
A $100 Million Promise Comes Home
The new funding also carries some hometown significance. Lowe’s is headquartered in Mooresville, employs roughly 300,000 associates, and operates more than 1,750 home improvement stores along with hundreds of branches and distribution centers. The company reported more than $86 billion in fiscal 2025 sales.
This latest $20 million investment completes a five-year, $100 million commitment through the Lowe’s Community Impact program to restore and improve community spaces. Lowe’s says the work focuses on places people already depend on, including housing resources, outdoor spaces, nonprofit facilities, and other neighborhood gathering spots.
The selected projects are expected to get underway this fall, which means Lowe’s associates will be trading the home-improvement aisle for plenty of real-world job sites.
For a company built around helping people tackle the projects staring at them from the weekend to-do list, taking the same idea into schools, shelters, and community organizations feels pretty fitting. Some renovations simply deserve a bigger crew!
