Small-Batch Scoops, Big Local Love

Small-Batch Scoops, Big Local Love

people want something cold, homemade, and worth the stop. Beaches-N-Cream has been answering that call since 2012, when Steven and Amanda opened the business in a shared country store space on Stone Chimney Road. Amanda spent two years practicing recipes on a tiny countertop machine. What started with faith, family, trial, error, and a whole lot of churn has grown into a causeway favorite where “you’re in for a treat” is less a slogan and more like a promise they keep one batch at a time.

The difference is in the making. Beaches-N-Cream prepares homemade ice cream fresh on site in small batches, using milk from North Carolina free-range cows and fresh local produce when available. Amanda develops every recipe herself, earning the very accurate title of ice cream scientist, or maestro, depending on how formal everyone is feeling. New flavors and combinations can appear almost daily, but nothing makes it to the dipping cabinet without earning its place. If a flavor works, it joins the rotation. If it doesn’t, it meets the “flavor trash can.” That may sound harsh, but it’s also why the Butter Pecan survived seven rounds of tweaking and now remains wisely untouched.

Their commitment shows up in the details customers can taste. Strawberry means fresh strawberries. Banana pudding means actual banana pudding. Mint chip is not green because there is no dye doing the heavy lifting. The ice cream is made with a premium 16% butterfat base, no hormones, no preservatives, no corn syrup, and no artificial shortcuts pretending to be flavor. In a tiny shop that has grown from a leap of faith into a family-style stop worth planning around, Beaches-N-Cream’s 2026 Best of North Carolina Award feels like the natural next scoop.
