A Smashing Good Pumpkin Night!

A Smashing Good Pumpkin Night!

Hundreds of carved pumpkins are about to get their night in the spotlight! On Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, Pumpkin Fest fills Silvermont Park in Brevard with glowing gourds, live music, local food, and a little White Squirrel mischief.

Follow the Glow

Running from 6 to 9 p.m. each night, Pumpkin Fest sends families along a short walking trail lined with illuminated, elaborately carved pumpkins. This weekend’s celebrations are part of a larger Friday-and-Saturday series, which wraps up October 30.

The pumpkins may get top billing, but there is plenty happening beyond the trail. Local musicians perform throughout the evening, while food trucks, games, storytelling, and face painting give families plenty of reasons to linger. Brevard’s signature wildlife even gets in on the fun with a White Squirrel scavenger hunt.

There is also a little local history tucked between the Halloween festivities. Guests can tour Silvermont Mansion, the 33-room Colonial Revival home completed in 1917 for Joseph Silversteen and his family. The mansion anchors an eight-acre park near downtown and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

That setting gives the evening a distinctly Brevard feel. Silvermont Park & Mansion serves the community throughout the year with a paved walking trail, gardens, playground, picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, and other recreational amenities. For Pumpkin Fest, those familiar grounds trade their everyday routine for jack-o’-lanterns, costumes, music, and an evening built around being together.

Pumpkins With a Purpose

Pumpkin Fest is organized and staffed by Friends of Silvermont volunteers, and the annual celebration serves as the group’s primary fundraiser. Admission and parking proceeds help support improvements to the park and historic mansion, giving all those glowing pumpkins a purpose beyond looking good after dark.

For local families, October 24 offers the kind of Halloween plan that can fill an evening without overcomplicating it: wander the pumpkin trail, hunt for White Squirrels, grab something from a food truck, listen to local music, and peek inside a piece of Brevard history before heading home.
