About
Sims Country BBQ was founded in 1979 in the Dudley Shoals community by Keith and Shirley Sims and their children after a hunting trip out west. While on a hunting trip to Texas, Keith and his sons tried Texas-style BBQ and loved it so much they decided to share it with friends and neighbors in North Carolina. During that trip, Keith even traded with a local Texan for the secret recipe that became the signature Sims BBQ sauce.
What started as a family venture quickly became a local treasure. For more than 45 years, Sims Country BBQ has been serving the same simple, beloved menu: all-you-can-eat BBQ pork, chicken, and beef, along with baked beans, coleslaw, and our famous cornbread fritters.
But Sims Country BBQ is more than a place to eat - it’s a place to bring people together. Every Friday and Saturday night, families and friends come together to eat as much BBQ as their bellies can hold, tap along to live bluegrass music, and enjoy a relaxed country atmosphere. On any given night, you'll see cloggers and square dancers out on the floor, kids playing on the dance floor and in the loft, guests feeding the fish at the pond, and large tables filled with laughter as people celebrate birthdays, reunions, and other milestones.
Sims is still proudly family-run, now raising the fourth generation at the BBQ and continuing Keith and Shirley's tradition of welcoming guests - whether they're from just down the road or across the world - like neighbors and friends.
Each fall, the restaurant also hosts the Molasses Festival, a community celebration featuring live music, crafts, demonstrations, and the old-fashioned process of making molasses from sorghum cane grown right on the farm.
At Sims Country BBQ, our mission has always been simple: Make sure nobody leaves hungry...and nobody leaves a stranger.
