Taste Of The Town

The Owner and Chef of Taste Of The Town, Clayton Wilkinson, grew up in the restaurant industry from a young age. His grandfather, Dayne Grigg of Dayne’s Shingle Shak in Shelby, NC, was a big inspiration to Clayton’s pursuit of a career in the food industry. Clayton and his grandfather started competing in BBQ competitions in 1999. His grandfather won his 1st Grand Champion Competition around this time, which led them to win numerous times in multiple categories throughout the years. 

Journey and Experience

In 2009, Clayton decided to attend the culinary program at CPCC in Charlotte, NC. In 2011, he graduated with honors and was certified by the American Culinary Federation. From 2012 to 2019, he worked as a corporate chef for Compass Group USA. The thought of having his own food business always lingered in his mind throughout the years. In May 2020, Taste Of The Town was established. In 2023, Clayton won Entrepreneur of the Year for Cleveland County Businesses, 2024 Finalist for Best Caterer of Cleveland County and 2025 Winner of Best Caterer of Cleveland County.
